These problems often come from how the brain handles motion, vision and body position. GyroStim trains that system in a chair that turns you through controlled rotations while you hit targets.
It is one of the tools our neurological rehabilitation center in Rancho Santa Fe uses after a full exam.
What it is
What is GyroStim?
GyroStim is a computer-controlled chair that rotates you on several axes while you aim a laser pointer at lit targets. The motion challenges the inner-ear balance system and the visual system together, so the brain practices taking in motion and responding with accurate movement.

How it works
Your exam sets the starting speed, direction and length of each run.
You sit secured in the chair and hit lit targets as it rotates.
The system records your accuracy, and the next run is adjusted to your response.

What does the vestibular system do?
The vestibular system is the balance organ in your inner ear. After a concussion or other injury, its signals can stop matching what your eyes see, a common cause of dizziness.

Balance after a brain injury
A brain injury can affect balance, coordination and reaction speed together. GyroStim is one part of rehabilitation after a traumatic brain injury when those systems are involved.
Vertigo that keeps returning
Vertigo has several causes, so the exam comes first. Recurring vertigo care can include GyroStim when motion processing is the problem.
Mal de Debarquement Syndrome
GyroStim is one option in a plan for the rocking feeling of MdDS, the swaying that lingers after a boat trip or flight.
Migraine with dizziness
GyroStim may help with the balance side of migraine-related dizziness.

Does insurance cover GyroStim?
We explain cost and payment options on your intro call, before you book an exam. The total depends on how many sessions your plan needs.
What happens during a GyroStim session?
You sit secured in the chair while it rotates through set directions and speeds. You aim a laser pointer at lit targets over several short runs, about 30 minutes in all.
Will GyroStim make me dizzy?
Some motion is part of the training, but the chair starts gently, below your current limit. We lower the challenge if symptoms climb.
Can children or teens use GyroStim?
The FDA clearance covers adults 18 and older. For a younger athlete, we talk with the family about options on the intro call.
How many GyroStim sessions will I need?
It depends on your exam and how you respond. We re-check as you go and tell you plainly if GyroStim is not helping.
